Russia calls on Western countries to reveal their goals in developing toxic chemicals

New York (ST): The Russian Foreign Ministry called on Western countries to disclose the aim of some countries of the European Union and NATO in developing new types of toxic chemicals.
The Russia Today website quoted the Deputy Director of the Department for Non-Proliferation and Arms Control of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Konstantin Vorontsov, as saying at a meeting of the First Committee of the United Nations General Assembly, “Russia has proposed to include in the control lists of the Chemical Weapons Convention all chemicals that, according to the results of research in Western laboratorie shave the name Novichki,” noting that this was not done because of the position of Western countries.
Vorontsov added that Russia will hold a consultative meeting under the Biological and Chemical Weapons Convention to discuss US activities in military and biological laboratories in Ukraine, explaining that “we have not received comprehensive explanations that could completely calm any doubts about these activities and thus  the Russian side called for holding a consultative meeting under Article 5 of the Biological and Chemical Weapons Convention.
