Russia calls on the Security Council to pressure Ukraine to open sea humanitarian corridors

New York (ST): Russia called on the Security Council today to pressure Ukraine to guarantee freedom of maritime navigation, noting that the latter rejects Russian proposals to open sea humanitarian corridors.

Russia’s Deputy Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Dmitry Chumakov, said at the Security Council that the allegations of the European Union Commissioner for Security and Foreign Affairs Josep Borrell about Russia’s prevention of the flow of Ukrainian wheat exports to Africa are groundless.

He added that Ukraine did not agree to Russia’s proposals for humanitarian sea corridors, pointing out that the Ukrainian delegation to the International Maritime Organization “recognized the danger of bombing and sea mines from Ukraine.”

Chumakov indicated that banning Russian ships in European ports does not help in solving today’s problems, stressing the need to take all measures to ensure commercial navigation in the Black Sea, Azov and the Mediterranean.
