Russia calls on the Security Council to open an urgent investigation into the “Northern Stream” bombing

Moscow, (ST) – Russia called on yesterday the UN Security Council to form an independent commission to urgently investigate into the blowing up of the Northern Stream gas pipline destined for Germany in the waters of Norway.

RT quoted the spokeswoman for the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova, as saying: Work in New York is continuing on the Russian draft resolution in the Security Council regarding the establishment of an independent international commission by the Secretary-General of the United Nations to investigate the circumstances of the bombing of gas pipelines. She referred that the Russian delegation held four rounds of talks of negotiations in an attempt to develop a text acceptable to all members of the Council. She indicated that the search for a compromise will continue to prove the identity of the agents and perpetrators of the terrorist attack.

Zakharova drew attention to recent data indicating that during a survey conducted by Nord Stream AG of one of the Nord Stream pipelines in the economic zone of Denmark, at a distance of 30 km from the site of the explosion, an object was found that could be an element of explosive devices. She stressed that this element of explosive devices confirms on the urgent need for the Security Council to urgently adopt a resolution regarding the formation of an appropriate committee by the Secretary-General of the United Nations to shed light on all the circumstances of the sabotage so that this does not happen again in the future.

Zakharova added that if Western countries refuse to work constructively on the draft resolution, this will indicate the creation of deliberate obstacles to establishing the truth about the issue of the terrorist attacks on the North Stream.
