Russia has renewed its call for saving thousands of children held in Al-Hawl refugee camp in the eastern countryside of Hasakah. The camp is controlled by the US backed Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) separatist militia.
Russia’s Deputy Permanent Representative to the United Nations Gennady Kuzmin said during an online Security Council meeting last night dedicated to discuss the impact of COVID-19 pandemic on children and child abuses under armed conflicts that according to UN statistics, some 1000 children live in Al-Hawl Camp where 600 deaths because of Corona virus have been registered.
He called on the countries, which have child nationals held in this camp, to repatriate them, so they don’t become people without a nationality, and to assume their responsibility towards protecting their children in the camp and guarantee their safe return to their home countries.
The Russian diplomat affirmed that his country is working effectively and actively to repatriate its child nationals who were recruited by the terrorists, in addition to the children whose parents joined the ranks of the terrorist extremist organizations, calling for protecting children and not politicizing any issues relating to children.
