Russia calls on Britain to abandon the confrontational approach in its dealings with it

Russia has called on Britain to abandon the confrontational approach in its dealings with it, pointing out that it would be met with reciprocal measures.

TASS news agency quoted the Russian embassy in London as saying in a statement on August 21st, commenting on Britain’s imposition of new sanctions against it, “We once again urge the British leadership to abandon the unjustified confrontational stance it is taking towards our country, and there will be an appropriate response from us to any hostile behavior against us.”

The embassy clarified that the new British sanctions against Moscow are based on pretexts, including the case of blogger Alexei Navalny.

The statement continued: “We have stressed several times the need to exchange information between the two sides about Navalny and to provide evidence of the accusations they are making.”

Last Friday, the British Foreign Office announced the imposition of sanctions on seven officers of the Russian Federal Security Service for their alleged involvement in the “Navalny poisoning” case.
