Russia and the UAE stress the need to find a political solution to the crisis in Syria

Russia and the United Arab Emirates reiterated the need to find a political solution to the crisis in Syria and the international community’s contribution to the reconstruction.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said during a press conference with his Emirati counterpart Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan in Moscow today, Thursday, the 17th of March 2022, “We discussed the situation in Syria, and we agree on the need to find a political solution to the crisis in it, the importance of the international community’s contribution to the reconstruction process, and the need to intensify efforts aimed at the return of the country.” Syria to the Arab League.

 

Lavrov indicated that the talks also dealt with the humanitarian situation in Ukraine and the evacuation of civilians, noting the UAE’s balanced position towards the crisis in Ukraine.

For his part, the UAE Foreign Minister said: We discussed bilateral relations and the challenges facing the world, especially the crisis in Ukraine, and efforts to settle it, expressing the UAE’s readiness to contribute to this settlement and its welcome to all international mediation efforts aimed at bringing the two sides’ views closer.

Bin Zayed indicated that he also discussed with Lavrov the security of energy, climate and hydrocarbon supplies, indicating that there is consensus with Moscow on the energy price policy and the urgent need for communication and coordination in the light of the current circumstances to discuss appropriate solutions to issues in a way that ensures the achievement of security and stability in the world.

At the outset of his meeting with his Emirati counterpart, Lavrov pointed out that the continuous contacts between Russia and the UAE confirm the special nature of relations between the two countries and the joint leadership’s endeavor to continue developing them in the field of energy and all fields.
