Russia and Iran stress that granting Palestine full UN membership is a chance to address the historical injustices endured by the Palestinian people

Russian Permanent Representative to the United Nations Vasily Nebenzya said that granting Palestine full UN membership is a chance to at least partially correct the historical unjustness to which the Palestinian people have been exposed.

Before voting, Nebenzia said that “Russia will vote in favor of this document in commemoration of the Palestinians who were killed during Israeli aggression and who, because of the disability of the international community to stop the bloodshed in Gaza, wouldn’t live to see Palestine obtaining full UN membership”.

Iran backs Palestine’s full UN membership

Iran’s ambassador to the United Nations Amir Saeid Iravani expressed Tehran’s strong support for Palestine’s full membership in the UN, describing it as a first step and a pivotal moment in addressing the historical injustices endured by the Palestinian people.

The resolution rightly underscores that the State of Palestine is qualified for membership in the United Nations in accordance with Article 4 of the Charter, he affirmed

The Islamic Republic of Iran acknowledges and supports the General Assembly’s decision. The decision represents a modest yet crucial step in fulfilling the international community’s obligations toward the people of Palestine and restoring some of Palestine’s inherent rights,

Iravani pointed out that Palestine has demonstrated its commitment to peace and its ability to fulfill the obligations under the UN Charter. Consequently, it deserves full membership in the United Nations.
