Russia aerial attacks against terrorists fruitful: Syria deputy FM

A high-ranking Syrian official has hailed the ongoing Russian airstrikes against positions of foreign-sponsored Takfiri terrorists in Syria, saying the anti-terror raids have produced significant results.

Syrian Deputy Foreign Minister Faisal al-Miqdad said that the counter-terrorist operations have raised hopes among Syrians that their homeland would be ultimately liberated from the clutches of Takfiri militants, according to press.tv.

“Our Russian friends have repeatedly stated that they are fighting against the terrorists based on the relevant UN Security Council resolutions.

So when our Russian friends, for example, conducted an operation yesterday, using cruise missiles fired from offshore to hit terrorist targets, they clearly reported on the number of the missiles and the targets that were hit,” he pointed out.

Miqdad further said the Russian Air Force has successfully provided support for Syrian ground troopers, and that Moscow’s airstrikes are in accordance with international law.

The top Syrian official highlighted that the Damascus government welcomes all efforts by the international community to combat terrorism in the crisis-hit Arab country.

Speaking at a press briefing in Moscow on Friday, Russia’s Deputy Chief of Staff Lieutenant-General Igor Makushev said Russian fighter jets have carried out 67 sorties in Syria, killing 300 foreign-backed militants, among them two senior Daesh field commanders, in the process.

On October 7, the Russian Navy launched a total of 26 cruise missiles at terrorist targets in Syria from its warships in the Caspian Sea. The Russian Defense Ministry also released video footage of the missile launches.

The ministry stressed that the attack was launched “by high-precision ship missile systems, Kalibr-NK, the cruise missiles of which engaged all the assigned targets successfully and with high accuracy.”

Moscow began its military campaign against terrorists in Syria on September 30 upon a request from the Damascus government, shortly after the upper house of the Russian parliament gave President Vladimir Putin the mandate to use military force in Syria.
