“Running for Basma” in support of children with cancer

Damascus  (ST): In support of children with cancer, the charity marathon “Running for Basma” was launched this morning in front of the Sheraton Hotel in the Umayyad Square in Damascus.

The marathon participants travelled a distance of 5 kilometers from the Umayyad Square towards the Mouwasat Roundabout and the Children’s Hospital, through the Rabwah to the Mazzeh Highway and back towards the Sheraton Hotel, to participate at the end of it in a range of recreational and artistic activities within the hotel.

The marathon, organized by the Basma Society for the Support of Children with Cancer for the third time, in cooperation with the Athletics Federation, at the conclusion of the Children’s Cancer Awareness Month, aims to collect donations to support the Society’s programs and to confirm that children with cancer are our responsibility and we are all able to contribute,” according to the Society’s statement.

Lana Al-Qasim from Basma Association indicated in a statement that the marathon seeks to confirm the continuity of the existence and work of the association, introduce the community to its services and collect some donations for the benefit of children with cancer.She considered that the marathon achieved its goal through the active participation of different segments of society, especially young people.
