TEHRAN, (ST)- President Hassan Rouhani of Iran has vowed continuous support for Syria in the fight against terrorism and in reconstructing what the terrorist war imposed on the country has destroyed.
Rouhani, who was speaking during a meeting on Wednesday with Walid al-Moallem, Syria’s Deputy Premier, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, stressed that the return of peace and stability to the entire Syrian territories is one of the key goals of the foreign policy of the Islamic Republic of Iran.
During the meeting, Rouhani and al-Moallem discussed the strategic relations between Syria and Iran in addition to the latest developments in Syria and the region. The importance of continuous coordination in the face of the conspiracy targeting the two countries was affirmed.
Al-Maollem conveyed to President Rouhani President Bashar Al-Assad’s greetings and best wishes of progress and prosperity to the Iranian people.
Rouhani reciprocated by asking al-Moallem to convey his greetings and best wishes to President Al-Assad and the Syrian people. He asserted his country’s keeness on enhancing its historical relations with Syria, urging the officials of the two countries to follow up the implementation of the agreements signed between Syria and Iran, particularly those reached during last week’s successful visit of Iran’s First Vice President Eshaq Janagiri to Damascus.
The Iraniann President hailed the Syrian people’s resistance and steadfastness and well as the victories achieved by the Syrian Arab army and its allies over terrorism, pointing out that these victories belong to the entire region. He also reiterated Iran’s firm support for Syria’s soveriegnty and territorial integrity.
On his part, al-Moallem congratulated the Iranian leadership and people on the achievments realized over the past forty years and since the eruption of the Islamic Revolution of Iran. He stressed Syria’s keenness on deepening its relations with Iran in all doamins. He said that the successful recent visit of Jahangiri to Syria has given a strong push forward to bilateral ties.
Al-Moallem expressed Syria’s high appreciation for Iran’s support for Syria’s battle to liberate its territories from terrorism and foreign occupation, to preserve its soverignty and territorial integrity. He affirmed the importance of continuous coordination and consultation, particularly during the current important era in the light of the victories being achieved by Syria and Iran in the confrontation of the conspiracies hatched against them.
He pointed out that Iran’s success in defeating the conspiracy is a success for Syria and vice versa.
Al-Moallem also held a meeting with Ali Akbar Velayati, Top Advisor for International Affaris to Iran’s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei. He discussed with him bilateral ties and developments in Syria and the region.
The Syrian top diplomat conveyed the cogratulations of President Al-Assad and the Syrian people to Sayyed Ali Khamenei and the Iranian people on the anniversary of the victory of the Islamic Revolution in Iran.
He affirmed that Syria and Iran are together confronting terrorism and the schemes of the United States and its tools in the region, particularly “Israel”.
Speaking to journalists following the meeting, al-Moallem described his talks with the the Iranian officials as “very important and constructive as regards deepening our strategic cooperation in different fields.”
“The two countires have together faced an enemy called terrorism and we are now confronting an enemy called colonialism and hegemony. However, as we triumphed in the fight against terrorism we will triumph in the fight against colonialism,” said al-Moallem.
On his part, Velayati said his meeting with al-Moallem was very good and constructive.
He added that the America-Zionism-Reactionaries triangle in the region have failed and was defeated, stressing that the Americans should leave Syria.
