Rouhani to Al-Mikdad: Iran and Syria share the common goal of fighting the Israeli occupation and terrorism
President Hassan Rouhani of Iran has hailed the Syrian-Iranian relations as strategic and fraternal, reiterating that the two countries share the common goal of fighting the Israeli occupation and terrorism.
Rouhani made the remarks during his meeting on Tuesday with Syria’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Faisal Al-Mikdad in Tehran.
“The fight against Israeli occupation and terrorism is the common goal of Iran and Syria,” said Rouhani, pointing out that “there is no doubt that we must continue our resistance to the end and eliminate terrorists.”
President Rouhani reiterated that Iran wil continue to stand by the Syrian people and government and will support Syria as a strategic ally until it achieves final victory.
He stressed the importance of multi-sided cooperation to reconstruct Syria and facilitate the return of the refugees and the internally displaced Syrians to their cities and villages.
He clarified that Iran considers the Astana formula as very useful in preserving Syria’s interests and territorial integrity.
Rouhani also condemned the US President Donald Trump’s recognition of Israel’s annexation of the occupied Syrian Golan, calling for confronting the Zionist occupiers until all the occupied territories, including the Golan, are fully liberated.
On his part, Al-Mikdad said that the relation between Tehran and Damascus is among the most valuable and honest political relations in the world.
“We believe that other countries should learn how to build a true friendship and how to strengthen this relation” Al-Mikdad added, stressing the determination of both countries to enhance their bilateral relations in all fields.
The Syrian top diplomat made it clear that violating international obligations and agreements by the US government is illogical, stressing that “signing the nuclear deal between Iran and the G5+1 was constructive and Iran’s efforts to oblige the negotiating parties to fulfill their pledges were right and also constructive.”
