Rouhani: Liberating Aleppo from Terrorism, Cessation of Hostilities Important to Realize Peace, Stability in Syria
TEHRAN, (ST)-President Hassan Rouhani of Iran has renewed his country’s support for the Syrian people in the face of terrorists, pointing out that liberating the Syrian city of Aleppo from terrorism and maintaining the cessation of hostilities are two major steps to realize peace and stability in Syria.
President Rouhani’ remarks came during his meeting on Wednesday with Syrian Prime Minister Imad Khamis, who is in an official visit to Tehran.
Rouhani congratulated Khamis on the latest achievements in the fight against terrorism, saying “liberating the city of Aleppo is a message stressing the strength of the Syrian people in defending their country.”
He added that terrorists and their protectors won’t succeed in achieving their evil goals.
He affirmed the need to benefit from the available opportunity for combating terrorists, expressing hope that Astana talks will lead to positive results that achieve the aspirations of the Syrians.
The Iranian President affirmed that Syria’s friends reiterate that only the Syrian people can decide their future.
Khamis, on his part, expressed his condolences to President Rouhani on the passing away of Iran’s former President and Head of the Expediency Council Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani.
He asserted that liberating Aleppo was achieved thanks to the steadfastness of the resistant Syrian people, the sacrifices of the Syrian Arab army and the support Syria’s allies including the Islamic Republic of Iran.
“Today, Syria, both government and people, has a strong determination to confront the terrorists and restore security and stability nationwide,” the premier stressed, expressing hope that Astana talks will contribute to the attainment of peace and security in Syria, the elimination of terrorism and the achievement of final victory.
He hailed Iran’s key role in attaining security and stability in the region, reiterating the need to enhance the strategic relations between Syria and Iran. He urged reactivating the joint cooperation committee and called on the Iranian private sector to take part in the different Syrian projects.
In the same context, Ali Akbar Velayati, Advisor of Leader of the Iranian Revolution for International Affairs met the Syrian Prime Minister and stressed to him that Iran will keep supporting Syria until terrorism is eliminated and victory is achieved.
Speaker of the Iranian Shoura Council (Parliament) Ali Larijani affirmed in a meeting with the Syrian premier that Iran and Syria are in the same trench and they have a common strategy, pointing out that victory over terrorism is inevitable.
