Rouhani: JCPOA Removes Obstacles for Boosting Economic Ties

The nuclear deal between Iran and G5+1, known as the JCPOA, has removed the obstacles to promotion of economic cooperation, President Hassan Rouhani says.

The Iranian President during his meeting on Wednesday with Swiss President Johann Schneider-Ammann, expressed hope that Iran and Switzerland would be able to enhance bilateral economic ties following, implementation of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action.

‘There are considerable potential for developing economic ties between Iran and Switzerland,’ President Rouhani told Schneider-Ammann on the sidelines of the 71st Regular Session of the UN General Assembly.

‘But we need to activate banking ties in order to fully exploit the potential, Rouhani said.

The Iranian President said that to implement the nuclear deal, it is vital that all parties be committed to their JCPOA obligations.

‘The EU governments, including Switzerland, should try to reassure their big banks to reestablish ties with Iran,’ Rouhani said.

‘Presently Iran is executing important projects at domestic and regional levels, including construction of a network of railroads and development of ports that will ultimately link the region to the Mediterranean region and ultimately to Europe, ‘ he said.

‘Iran and Switzerland are capable of launching joint investment projects in the region,’ Rouhani said.

The President of Swiss Confederation, for his part, said that his country was intended to develop its economic, financial and banking ties with the Islamic Republic.

Schneider-Ammann urged that Iran and Switzerland try to solve problems step by step.

Switzerland has the will to enhance its ties with Iran to a high level, he said.
