Rouhani: Iran to stand by Syria until the achievement of the final victory over terrorism

TEHRAN, (ST)_ Iran’s President Hassan Rouhani on Tuesday reiterated that Iran will stand by the Syrian people and government until the achievement of the final victory over terrorism, the return of refugees and the achievement of reconstruction of Syria. 
 
Rouhani, during his meeting with the Syrian ambassador in Tehran Dr. Shafiq Dayoub and while receiving his credentials, described the Syrian-Iranian relations as strategic, friendly and fraternal throughout history.
 
“In recent years, the Islamic Republic of Iran has always supported the Syrian people in defending the truth and fighting terrorism and it will continue to do that until the achievement of the final victory  and the return of refugees to Syria”.
 
Rouhani stressed that Iran will continue its diplomatic efforts, especially in the framework of the Astana talks, to help fully establish stability and peace in Syria.
 
He expressed his condolences on the death of the late Foreign Minister Walid al-Moallem and appreciated his efforts to strengthen relations between the two countries.
On his part, Ambassador Dayoub emphasized that the Syrian government and people want to preserve all the achievements that have been realized in the past four decades in strategic relations with Iran.
 
He hailed Iran’s support for the leadership, government and people of Syria.
 
Ambassador Dayoub stressed that Syria is going ahead with its cooperation with its brothers and allies in fighting terrorism and occupation in all its forms and names, indicating that it has made great achievements and steps in this regard and will continue its cooperation with Iran to contain the  effects of the unilateral coercive measures being imposed on the two countries.
 
He also praised Iran’s diplomatic efforts to bring stability to Syria and facilitate the return of displaced Syrians, and its support for the work of the Committee of Discussing Constitution.
