Retired American officer: Washington must recognize inability to achieve victory through the war in Ukraine

On August 17th, Retired American officer Daniel Davis confirmed that Ukraine will never be able to win the battlefield, calling on it and Washington to stop the war.

Davis wrote in the “1945” magazine, according to Novosti Agency: “Kiev, there is no rational path to military victory for Ukraine. The longer Kiev and Washington ignore this painful reality, the greater the damage that will be pointlessly inflicted on the people of Ukraine, and the more territory they might cede in an eventual negotiated conclusion. It is time to prioritize diplomacy and seek a negotiated settlement.

With the losses already sustained over nearly a year and a half of high-intensity combat — and the failure of the current offensive to accomplish even intermediate objectives — there is very little chance Ukraine will be able to build a new offensive capacity in the foreseeable future, Davis added.

He pointed out that in order to preserve the lands that are currently controlled, Kiev must agree to the hard truth that the most rational approach now is to freeze the conflict and start negotiations.

He explained that the United States spent more than 100 billion dollars and sent thousands of armored vehicles and millions of ammunitions and missiles, and provided intelligence support over approximately a year and a half to Kiev, and now it must be recognized that this extensive level of investments has not brought its fruits.

He went on to say that the West must concede that, right or wrong, the Ukrainian Army was given a chance to launch its offensive and see if it could work or not. The West in general and the United States in particular, have contributed mammoth amounts of military aid to Ukraine.

Davis stressed that Washington has to give priority to American national security and economic growth, and therefore it must recognize the new reality.
