Homeland, martyr, Syrian heritage and woman are the main topics depicted in 57 art works featured in Damascus Countryside artists’ exhibition opened Sunday in Damascus.
The art works were made by 34 artists, according to the official news agency (SANA), which quoted head of Visual Artists Union (VAU) Dr. Ihsan al-Er as saying that the exhibition reflects artist’s role and responsibility throughout history.
“Artists of Damascus countryside province have made distinguishable works despite difficult circumstances in the country,” he added.
Secretary of VAU in Damascus countryside Mr. Rasmi Jebbeh affirmed that Syrian artists fight terrorism by culture and art. “I made an oil painting entitled ‘Panorama of Damascus’ . It shows a mix of Damascene cultural, heritage and civilized diversity.”
Another painting on harmony among Syrian people and on their steadfastness against terrorism was made by the artist Sohel Abo Hamdan, who referred to the resumption of holding the annual exhibitions of Damascus Countryside’s VAU after pause for several years due to crisis in the country.
The exhibition, being held at al-Shaab Fine Arts Gallery, will last for 10 days.
