Restoration works in the Church of Christ the King for Capuchin Priests in Deir Ezzor begin

Deir Ezzor (ST) – Service workshops in Deir Ezzor have begun the restoration and rehabilitation works for the Church of Christ the King for Capuchin Priests and Mother Teresa Monastery for the care and maintenance of the elderly from the damage they have suffered as a result of terrorism.

The General Head of the Latin Catholic Churches and the Capuchin Priests in Syria and Lebanon, Father Abdullah Al-Nafili, stated that the church has been destroyed by the terrorist organizations that tried to obliterate the cultural and religious identity.

Christ the King Church is one of the oldest churches in Deir Ezzor and it enjoys a special position among the people of the province, Christians and Muslims, as its current construction dates back to 1930 including the church, the monastery, and the Mother Teresa House for the care of the elderly.

Al-Nafili indicated that the restoration and rehabilitation works are carried out in cooperation with the Deir Ezzor governorate and the local community. He called on all members of the Christian denominations to return to their homes in Deir Ezzor and contribute to the reconstruction process after security and safety have returned to the province.

In turn, the Director of Technical Services, Eng. Abdul Hadi Al-Saleh, indicated that the rehabilitation work began with cleaning the site, removing the rubble and collecting stones for rebuilding the way it was from the urban point of view and to preserve the architectural style of buildings of archaeological importance, in cooperation with the Directorate of Antiquities and Museums.

All churches in Deir Ezzor city were destroyed, vandalized and robbed by armed terrorist gangs during their control of the city’s neighborhoods.
