Restoration of the ancient market of Naoura in Homs.

Homs, (ST) – In a serious step to restore the commercial movement to the city’s markets, the Homs City Council completed the inventory of shops in the ancient Naoura market in the city center, in preparation to restore  these shops and revitalize  the commercial activity there.

The member of the committee for activating the antiquities markets in the council, Eng. Rasmi Al-Sebaei, stated to SANA that the number of shops in the Naoura market has reached 504, of which 134 have been restored and reopened, while 40 shops are being restored now.

He indicated that the shopkeepers in the market were asked to begin rehabilitating their stores within a maximum period of 60 days, as the council has completed all facilities, including basic services to the market, “asphalt works, lighting, sidewalks, water and electricity work.”

Al-Sebaei pointed out that work is currently underway to link the markets of the city center with each other, as the Naoura market is considered an ancient market that connects Al-Andalus Street with the Dablan neighborhood with Abdel Hamid Al-Droubi Street and the covered market.
