Representing President al-Assad at GFTU Conference, al-Hilal: Syrian workers are an efficient part of the axis of resistance

Damascus, (ST): Under the auspices of President Bashar al-Assad, the 27th General Conference of the General Federation of Trade Unions (GFTU)  started deliberations at al-Faihaa Sport Hall in Damascus with the participation of Arab and foreign delegations.

Representing President al-Assad at the opening ceremony, Assistant Regional Secretary General of al-Baath Arab Socialist Party Hilal al-Hilal, conveyed President al-Assad’s greetings to the participants and  expressed His Excellency’s care and attention to the workers’ sector, stressing the need to encourage them to develop this sector and promote its role in the construction and development process of the homeland.

Al-Hilal stressed that the working class in Syria has taken many steps for serving and enhancing national work. He underlined that Syria is confronting the fiercest campaigns represented by the terrorist war waged against it, the occupation of parts of its lands, the unfair economic siege and other pressures against Syria, affirming that those pressures will not dissuade the national will of the Syrian people and their determination to remain committed to the national and the Pan-Arab principles.

In his speech, the GFTU Chairman Jamal al-Qadiri, said that the Syrian workers have been struggling to defend the homeland since the beginning of the crisis nine years ago.

About 479 representatives of trade unions in the Syrian cities  and vocational unions are taking part in the conference which will last till Feb. 16th.

The conference will discuss economic and service reports submitted by the Executive bureau. A stand will be also held by the conference in solidarity with workers in occupied  Palestine and Golan in  confrontation of the ill-famed  “Deal of the Century”.
