Relentless Fight against Terrorism Syria’s Strategic Option : Ambassador

MOSCOW, (ST)- Syria’s Ambassador Riyad Haddad has stressed that several western countries and their tools in the region have employed their capabilities to destroy Syria through supporting and arming terrorists.

In a round table forum on “the situation of religious minorities in Syria and the Middle East”, organized by the Imperial Orthodox Palestine Society on Thursday, Haddad said “Some countries adopted destructive policies and tactics against Syria through financing, arming and sponsoring the terrorist takfiri groups and exposing Syria to unfair economic sanctions.”

 According to Haddad, these countries’ using of terrorism as a tool to implement their agenda’s in the Syria and the region poses permanent threat to regional and international peace and security. He pointed out that the Russian leadership has realized the danger and sought adopting a principled stance based on supporting the legitimate Syrian government and backing the Syrian people’s options by calling for attaining a political solution to the crisis in Syria through intra-Syrian dialogue away from foreign interference and through preserving Syria’s independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity.

The Syrian diplomat talked about the Syrian people’s suffering because of terrorism that hindered work in government establishments and caused systematic destruction of infrastructure in Syria. He also referred to the unjust economic sanctions imposed on the Syrian people, thereby worsening the humanitarian situation in Syria.

The ambassador affirmed that the Syrian people have foiled all schemes that aimed at dismantling the social fabric and coexistence in Syria.

He reiterated that Syria’s strategic option is to fight and eradicate terrorism in parallel with work as to solve the crisis through political dialogue among the Syrians in a way that maintains its independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity.

Haddad expressed the Syrian people’s gratitude for Russia for the humanitarian aid it has been sending to Syria to alleviate the suffering of citizens.

Humanitarian Crisis in Syria Worsened By US, EU Sanctions

Talking to reporters in Moscow, Haddad affirmed that the international sanctions on Syria have deteriorated the humanitarian situation in the country.

“Strict unilateral economic sanctions imposed by Europe, America and countries orbiting them resulted in deteriorated humanitarian situation in the country and negatively affected medical and food spheres,” the diplomat said, according to Sputnik.

“Moderate Groups”  in Syria Using Chemical Weapons Provided by Foreign States

The Syrian Ambassador accused the so-called “moderate opposition” of using chemical weapons, supplied from foreign countries.

“So-called moderate terrorist groups are using chemical weapons provided by countries supporting terrorism against the Syrian army and civilians,” Haddad told reporters.
