The Agriculture Directorate in the city of Der Ezzour yesterday launched a reforestation campaign which included planting 2,500 trees of various types.
Eng. Mahmoud Al-Hayyo, Director of Agriculture, told SANA that the replanting project is carried out by a number of governmental sectors in cooperation with the local community. It aims at replanting the areas that were damaged by terrorist attacks.
Engineer Muhammad Shaddad, director of the forestry department in the Agriculture Directorate of Der Ezzour, pointed out that the planted trees included different types such as eucalyptus, almonds, palm trees and others. Shaddad said that the agricultural nurseries in Der Ezzour produce more than 200 thousand saplings annually.
Participants in the project stressed the necessity of preserving the trees and green cover of Der Ezzour that was destroyed by terrorism.
