Reception held on the occasion of the 74th Indian Republic Day

Damascus (ST): The Indian Embassy in Damascus held  a reception on the occasion of the 74th anniversary of the Indian Republic Day, at the Dama Rose Hotel in Damascus.

The Chargé d’Affaires of the Indian Embassy in Damascus, Satender Kumar Yadav, confirmed in a speech that the Indo-Syrian relations are very close and based on strong and brotherly ties between the two peoples on the basis of similar historical backgrounds.

Yadav indicated that India will continue to support Syria in order to find a political solution led by the Syrian people, stressing Syria’s right to preserve its sovereignty and territorial integrity, which must be respected.

The ambassador reviewed what his country has achieved over the past years in terms of progress and success at all levels.

For his part, the Director of the Diplomatic Institute at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Dr. Imad Mustafa, affirmed that the Syrian-Indian relations are historical, strong and solid since the declaration of independence of the two countries, referring to India’s position towards the crisis in Syria, as it did not close its embassy in Damascus and did not distance itself and provided it with all forms of diplomatic, political, cultural, educational and health support.

Mustafa said: “Syria will not forget India’s stand by its side, and we always owe it this noble position, which expresses its integrity, culture and values as laid down by Mahatma Gandhi and the leaders of independence,” pointing out that India was one of the founding countries of the Non-Aligned Movement, of which Syria is proud of belonging to.
