Rawanji: The unilateral coercive measures against Syria are detrimental to the lives of citizens

Tehran (ST): Iran’s ambassador and permanent representative to the United Nations, Majeed Takht Rawanji, criticized the silence of the UN Security Council towards the suffering of the Syrian people caused by the unilateral coercive Western measures imposed on them.

In a speech during the UN Security Council meeting, Takht Rawanji said that the repercussions of these unilateral inhuman measures against Syria, which prevent the import of humanitarian goods, including food and medicine, seriously harm the lives of citizens, as much as the the imposition of starvation on them, stressing the necessity to immediately stop such measures.

The Iranian diplomat also referred to the inhuman and illegal behavior of the Zionist entity during the past decades in the occupied Palestinian territories, which include arbitrary practices such as the widespread ethnic cleansing, the destruction of homes, confiscation of Palestinian property, the illegal blockade of the Gaza Strip, and the massacres of civilians such as innocent children and women, which are clear examples of war crimes.

Takht Rawanji pointed out that the brutal practices of the Saudi regime in the aggression against Yemen over the past six years are another example in which thousands of civilians have been killed and homes, hospitals, schools, markets, diplomatic offices and even wedding and mourning ceremonies have been attacked,  noting that starvation was used against civilians as part  of the war, which led to the creation of the worst humanitarian crisis in our contemporary world.
