Qatari medical team to perform free cardia surgeries in Damascus from February 22 to 27

DAMASCUS, Feb.22, (ST)- Today, Qatari medical team composed of cardiac surgery specialists from Hamad Medical Corporation and Sidra Medicine Hospital arrived at Damascus International Airport as part of the “Medical Convoys Project” implemented by the Qatar Red Crescent (QRC) in several countries around the world.

According to the Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA), the doctors will perform 80 cardiac catheterization surgeries and repair heart defects in children, in cooperation with the Syrian Ministry of Health and the Syrian Arab Red Crescent SARC).

They will also provide hospitals with medical supplies necessary for these operations.

The surgeries will be performed within 5 days, from February 22 to 27, at the “Mowasah” University Center for Cardiac Diseases and Surgery (cardiac catheterization operations for children), and at the Damascus Center for Cardiac Diseases and Surgery in Dummar district in Damascus (cardiac catheterization operations for adults).

Mohammad Akram Maatouq, Director of Damascus Health, made it clear that the delegation is composed of well-qualified cardiac surgeons and will contribute to alleviating the burden and reducing the waiting period for patients by performing many free operations as a first stage that will be followed by another one.
