Qatar Welcomes The Positive Steps Taken by the New Administration in Syria

Qatar welcomed the positive steps taken by the new Syrian administration, in particular maintaining the safety of civilians, stabilizing state institutions, ensuring the continuation of public services, securing the necessary needs of the Syrian people, and restructuring the state.

“Qatar is proud of its steadfast position over the past 13 years alongside the brotherly Syrian people, and its unwavering support for their demands for a decent life, freedom and social justice,”

the Qatar News Agency quoted Qatar’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Alya Ahmed bin Saif Al-Thani, as saying in a statement yesterday during the Security Council meeting on the situation in the Middle East.

The permanent representative added: “Qatar’s firm position was embodied in the restoration of relations with the brotherly Syrian Arab Republic, and was manifested during the official visit of His Highness Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani to the Syrian capital, as the first Head of State to visit it after this historic transition, where he renewed support for the unity, sovereignty and independence of Syria.

She pointed out that out of Qatar’s moral responsibility towards its brothers in Syria to improve the living and humanitarian situation, it has launched an air bridge carrying humanitarian aid, and recently opened the “city of hope”, a housing project to shelter displaced people in northern Syria.

The Qatari representative reiterated her country’s condemnation of the Israeli occupation’s seizure of the buffer zone with Syria and its neighboring sites, stressing that it is a dangerous development and a blatant attack on the sovereignty and unity of Syria, and a flagrant violation of international law.

It is necessary for the international community to assume its responsibilities to oblige the occupation to comply with the relevant resolutions of international legitimacy and Security Council resolutions.
