Qatari Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Mohammed Al-Khulaifi, confirmed that his country will raise the issue of U.S. sanctions imposed on Syria during its upcoming visit to Washington. He added that discussions will also cover the financing of gas supplies to Syrian territories, as part of a series of high-level consultations with American partners.
In a statement reported by Agence France-Presse (AFP), Al-Khulaifi said Qatar aims to explore mechanisms for gas funding with Washington as part of a broader developmental and humanitarian aid package. He noted that the discussions remain “sensitive” and “ongoing” regarding this initiative. The talks will also include the potential increase of public sector salaries in Syria, with the aim of easing the burden of living conditions.
