Minister of Agriculture and Agrarian Reform Mohammad Hassan Qatana on Sunday announced that all the fires that erupted in the forests of the northern countryside of Lattakia have been controlled, pointing out that current operations are focusing on cooling and monitoring.
In a statement to reporters, the minister said that the intensification of efforts last night to surround the most dangerous hotspots of fire, and help extinguish and control the fires and prevent their transfer to other sites were fruitful as they succeeded in extinguishing the fires, without forgetting that continuous wind may form the basis of any possible fire.
Qatna praised the immediate response of the forest workers and cadres, who went as quickly as possible to the site of the fire and tried to extinguish it, but the strong winds, high vegetation density as well as the grass and coniferous plants have led to the fire to get out of control and spread to other locations.
