Putin: “Our main task today is to stop bloodshed and violence”

Russian President Vladimir Putin affirmed that his country is against the killing of children, women, and the elderly, and leaving hundreds of thousands of people without shelter, food, water, or medical care in a true humanitarian catastrophe.

During his meeting with men of religions in Moscow today, Putin said: “Russia is monitoring the tragic situation in the Middle East with great concern, and its position on the conflict is known and has been expressed very clearly more than once and it is based on the UN Security Council resolutions that stipulate a two-state solution.”

Putin pointed out that the main task today is “to stop the violence and bloodshed, to prevent the escalation of the crisis, which threatens to have more dire, dangerous and devastating consequences, and these consequences are not limited to the Middle East alone.”

Putin pointed out that there are attempts by some Western powers to provoke further escalation, attract the largest possible number of other countries and peoples into the conflict, and provoke a large wave of chaos and religious hatred not only in the Middle East but much beyond that, by playing on nationalism and religious feeling of millions of people.

He noted that the West has been following this policy for a very long time.
