Putin: I will discuss with Biden situation in Syria and Libya and a number of global issues

Russian President Vladimir Putin announced that he intends to discuss the situation in Syria and Libya, in addition to a number of global issues, with his American counterpart Joe Biden during their summit scheduled for June 16.

“There is a set of global issues that Moscow and Washington must cooperate on and that direct contacts between the two sides be restored”, Sputnik news agency quoted Putin as saying today, “the situation in Syria and Libya and issues of global security threats and environmental issues will be on the agenda of the meeting”.

On the United States’ decision to agree to extend the New Start Treaty, Putin said it was a “professional step,” adding, “Before every high-level event, both parties always try to mitigate negative rhetoric in order to create an environment conducive to work. Therefore, there is nothing exceptional here. I will not deceive myself with anything, it is a professional approach.”

The summit between Presidents Putin and Biden is scheduled to be held in Geneva, Switzerland on June 16. This will be their first meeting since Biden’s appointment as President of the United States early this year.
