Putin discusses with Russian Security Council the situation in Syria’s Idleb on eve of his meeting with Erdogan

MOSCOW, (ST)- Russian President Vladimir Putin and the permanent members of Russia’s Security Council on Wednesday discussed the situation in Syria’s Idlib ahead of the Russian leader’s talks with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan scheduled for Thursday, according to Kremlin Spokesman Dmitry Peskov.

Peskov said that issues relating to the Russian-Turkish relations and the Russian domestic affairs were also discussed.”

 Lavrov, Zarif discuss process of achieving political settlement in Syria

In a relevant context, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and his Iranian counterpart Mohammad Javad Zarif discussed during a phone conversation on Wednesday the process of achieving political settlement in Syria within the framework of the understandings reached in Astana meetings on Syria.

The Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement on Wednesday that the phone call dealt with several urgent international issues, including the joint comprehensive plan on the Iranian nuclear file and political settlement in Syria within the framework of the agreements concluded by the three guarantor states of Astana process (Russia, Iran and Turkey).

 On the other hand, the statement pointed out that Lavrov stressed that Moscow will help Iran combat Coronavirus.

Vershinin, Haddad discuss developments on the ground in Syria

Also, Russia’s Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Vershinin and Syria’s Ambassador in Moscow Riad Haddad discussed during a meeting today the latest developments in Syria.

In a statement, the Russian Foreign Ministry said that the Veshinin-Haddad meeting focused on military developments and prospects of making progress in the political process which is led by the Syrians in accordance with the Security Council Resolution No. 2254.

Procedures to provide urgent humanitarian aid to the Syrians who need were also discussed.
