Putin at BRICS Summit: Selfish actions of the West aggravate the global economic crisis

Russian President Vladimir Putin stressed that the West, armed with financial mechanisms, is throwing the burden of its economic mistakes on the world and exacerbating the global economic crisis with its selfish actions, pointing out the importance of sincere cooperation of mutual benefit to get out of the developing crisis.

In his speech at the BRICS summit today, Putin expressed Russia’s readiness to continue developing close cooperation with all BRICS partners and contribute to strengthening BRICS role on the international scene, noting that the prestige of the BRICS countries on the world stage is constantly increasing due to the economic, political and human capabilities of the countries of the group, which includes Russia, India, Brazil, China and South Africa.

Putin expressed his confidence that the BRICS summit would contribute to an exchange of views on the most important global and regional problems, indicating the importance of the BRICS countries developing a unified and positive path towards forming a true multipolar system of relations between states based on the internationally recognized standards of international law and the main principles of the Charter of the United nations.

Today, the 14th BRICS Summit began with the participation of the five countries: Russia, China, Brazil, India and South Africa, via video technology, which discusses international issues and develops prospects for cooperation in the fields of economy, politics, culture and other pressing international and regional issues.

Among the main issues on the summit agenda are the expansion of the group, the partial disposal of the dollar in trade transactions between countries, the creation of an international reserve currency on the basis of the BRICS basket of currencies, and the expansion of the use of the Russian Mir payment system.
