MOSCOW, (ST)_ Russian president Vladimir Putin has said terrorism is the most dangerous threat and the fight against it will continue in Syria.
His remarks came during a board meeting of Russia’s Federal Security Service (FSB) on Wednesday.
“We see that the level of global threats such as terrorism, trans-border crime and cybercrime does not decrease,” Putin said.
He particularly emphasized that issues of national security and protection of citizens from internal and external threats are a central preoccupation of the country’s leadership and the top priority, according to TASS.
At the same time, the Russian president stressed that this year the board meeting is conducted in a reduced format. “Yet this doesn’t make our event today any less important; unfortunately, these are the demands of the current epidemiological situation,” Putin said, addressing the FSB staff.
He hailed the agency for disrupting the activities of foreign spies, saying that it unmasked 72 foreign intelligence officers and 423 of their informants.
