Putin and the Russian National Security Council discuss situation in Syria

President of Russia Vladimir Putin discussed on Tuesday with members of the Russian National Security Council the latest developments in Syria and the need to avoid any acts that pose a threat to solving the crisis in Syria.

The participants in the meeting discussed in details the situation in Syria against the backdrop of the escalation in the northeastern area, Russia Today quoted presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov as saying.

The Turkish army attacked on Monday evening areas in the northeastern countryside of al-Hasakah, targeting locations near the illegal Simalka crossing on the Syrian-Iraqi border and Tal Tawil in al-Malikiyah area, where there are positions of the separatist SDF militia.

It’s importance at this stage to avoid any actions that would hinder the political process in Syria, Peskov reiterated.

On September 23, UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres announced that an agreement had been reached on forming a committee to discuss the constitution, noting the efforts of the Syrian government in this regard.

The UN Special Envoy to Syria Geir Pederson said that the committee will commence its action on October 30 in Geneva.
