Protests stepped up against US-backed militia in Deir Ezzor countryside

DEIR EZZOR, (ST)- Locals in the villages of Theban and al-Hawaij in the countryside of Deir Ezzor took to the streets on Tuesday to protest against the practices of the US-backed militia called Syria Democratic Force “SDF”, whose presence in these areas has worsened the living conditions of people there.

According to local sources, people in the villages of Theban and al-Hawaij protested against the SDF’s inhuman practices towards the locals and their repeated attempts to seize the resources of the villages, calling for an immediate end to their violations and for their departure from the area.

Protests spread to other areas, such as Sfira Tahtani, where the people closed the roads by stones and by burning tires, the sources said.

Protests have stepped up over the past days against the US-backed militia in the countryside of Deir Ezzor and Hasaka, because of their aggressive practices including crimes of kidnapping, killing and oil manipulating that led to more instability and insecurity in these areas.
