Protests renew in Beirut against deteriorating living conditions

Beirut, (ST) – Protests renewed in Beirut on Sunday against the deteriorating living conditions, while the Lebanese army re-opened a road after protesters blocked it with burning tires.

The Lebanese National News Agency reported that a number of protesters and civil movement activists gathered in front of the Central Bank of Lebanon in central Beirut after closing the capital’s streets.

The Lebanese Army reopened the road to Jisr al-Rana’a on Hamra Street, forcing the protesters to leave.

Last night, protesters blocked the road near St. Mikhael Chiyah Church in Beirut, where a Lebanese army force deployed at the church’s intersection, opened the road and restored traffic to normal.

Since October 17, 2019, many Lebanese regions have witnessed demonstrations and sit-ins protesting against the deteriorating living and economic conditions and demanding  a stop to  corruption in the country.
