Protests in Lebanon continue with the return of banditry

Beirut, (ST) – Beirut and some Lebanese areas witnessed sit-ins and protests this morning in conjunction with the return of banks to their normal work and before the convening of a session of the Lebanese Parliament.

Dozens of protesters gathered since the morning before the Council to prevent deputies from reaching the building and attending the legislative session scheduled before noon as security forces were working to prevent protesters from approaching the gates of the Council.

Protesters closed a highway in Halba in Akkar in northern Lebanon with flammable tires, iron barriers and sand. They also closed a number of secondary roads in Sidon and Abra with iron barriers and waste containers. Some public utilities were closed, especially both Ogero and Lebanese electricity companies. The highway in Saoufar and Abadiya Junction, but the international road in Aley is now open after the Lebanese army opened it to the public.

Protesters blocked West Bekaa roads in Jeb Jenin, Kamed al-Louz and Gaza, roads linking the western Bekaa to the center, Rachaya road at the town of al-Bireh and Hasbaya, blocking internal roads between villages and towns in the area.

In addition to all public and private schools have opened their doors today in Aley and Metn, and banks have opened to citizens after the internal security forces took security measures in front of banks.
