Protests continue in Beirut ahead of the session of the Lebanese government in the parliament

Beirut, (ST) – The protests renewed in Beirut today, ahead of the session to give confidence to the Lebanese government in the parliament

The Lebanese National Media Agency reported that the entrances to the parliament witnessed protests with the arrival of the deputies to the parliament to discuss the ministerial statement of the government before it was given a vote of confidence.

The agency noted that a number of protesters in the center of Beirut threw stones at the security forces, while others tried to remove the cement barriers and closed around of the Phenicia Hotel. Some protesters spread in the vicinity of the Monroe Hotel.

The agency reported that some of protesters gathered on the sea route to the House of Representatives in an attempt to close it.

The Lebanese army affirmed in a statement that the riots and encroachment on public and private property distort the demands and do not fulfill them and do not fall into the category of expression of opinion, while the Internal Security Forces asked the demonstrators to keep the demonstrations peaceful and not to riot.

Since October 17, Lebanon has witnessed sit-ins and demonstrations demanding accountability for the corrupt and anti-corruption.
