Between the 3rd and 4th of July, Israeli occupation forces killed at least 12 Palestinians, including 5 children, and injured more than 100 Palestinians, in one of Israel’s biggest military operations in the occupied West Bank in years.
The attacks forced thousands of Palestinians to flee and damaged infrastructure, houses and apartment buildings.
However, the events of the past week have shown the effectiveness of resistance in making the Israeli entity recalculate its approach, according to Professor Kamel Hawwash, who chairs of the Palestine Solidarity Campaign in Britain.
The professor clarified that the effectiveness of resistance led the Israeli entity to restore to attacks from the air rather than relying on incursions by its troops.
“The current Israeli extreme right wing government, which includes fascists such as Smotrish and Be Gvir, wants to end any form of Palestinian resistance and increase its hold on the West Bank and East Jerusalem. It refers to the West Bank using the biblical names Judea and Samaria, wiping out the presence of the Palestinian people for centuries. Jenin has been a major centre of resistance from both Palestinian factions and individuals, Prof. Hawwash told Syria Times e-newspaper.
He affirmed that the Israeli entity has failed to reach its goal as Palestinians carried out attack in Tel Aviv following the aggression on Jenin.
The professor, in addition, indicated that Netanyahu wanted to keep the coalition he has which wants to hit the Palestinians as hard as possible.
He believes that the Palestinians must rely mainly on their own resources and resistance to attain their rights to freedom and return because the international community is not only remaining silent but claiming Israel has a right to defend itself, and because of the lack of genuine support from the Arab world.
“This means that the resistance in the West Bank and Gaza must continue to develop their resources and skills,” Prof. Hawwash added.
He concluded by saying: “Britain and the US continue to throw Palestinians under the bus because they claim Israel shares their values of democracy and respect for human rights. Any objective observer will easily dismiss this claim. Israel is a racist, terrorist “state” and its policies have been confirmed to fit within the definition of Apartheid in the Rome Statute….Instead of supporting Israel, they should apply sanctions to it after 55 years of occupation.”
On the 5th of this month, UN Human Rights website quoted UN expert as saying: “The Palestinians in the occupied Palestinian territory are protected persons under international law, guaranteed of all human rights including the presumption of innocence,….They cannot be treated as a collective security threat by the occupying power, all the more while it advances the annexation of occupied Palestinian land, and displacement and dispossession of its Palestinian residents.”
