Prisoner Al-Akhras continues hunger strike for the 98th consecutive day, amid a significant deterioration of his health
Palestinian prisoner Maher Al-Akhras continues his open-ended hunger strike for the 98th consecutive day, in protest against the ongoing Israeli occupation crimes against Palestinian prisoners in the Israeli detention centers, amid a significant deterioration of his health condition.
The media advisor of the Detainees and Liberated Commission, Hassan Abd Rabbo, told Wafa News Agency that the prisoner suffers from severe fatigue and high heart muscle pressure. Fears are increasing that vital functions of the kidneys, liver and lungs will be damaged, the advisor said, warning of the possibility of a sudden setback threatening his life.
Despite what the hunger strike has inflicted on him, al-Akhras still has high morale, will and determination to uphold his right to freedom, Abd Rabbo added.
In a flagrant violation of international humanitarian law and human rights, the occupation authorities refuse to release the prisoner, despite warnings from human rights organizations about his severe health deterioration and their request to the international community to intervene to release him.
