Prime Minister, UN Resident Coordinator discuss enhancing cooperation in responding to earthquake repercussions

On March 6th, Prime Minister Hussein Arnous discussed with the United Nations Resident Coordinator Mustafa bin Al-Maleeh ways to enhance cooperation between Syrian government institutions and United Nations organizations concerned with humanitarian and relief work to respond to the repercussions of the earthquake.

The two sides discussed a number of proposals that contribute to achieving early recovery and the return of economic and social activity to the governorates affected by the earthquake.

The two sides also discussed the capabilities and assistance that the United Nations organizations working on the ground can provide to those affected, in addition to the measures taken by the Syrian government to deal with the repercussions and effects of the earthquake and to secure the arrival of aid to various affected areas.

Engineer Arnous drew attention to the huge losses that befell the country as a result of the earthquake disaster, which requires support from the United Nations and the international community to rehabilitate the affected areas.

He said that the Syrian government has provided all facilitations to the United Nations organizations to play their role in an optimal manner in order to support government efforts to mitigate the effects of the earthquake.

He referred to the negative impact of the illegal and immoral unilateral sanctions imposed on the Syrian people, which target them in their daily basic needs and livelihood, in addition to the American occupation stealing of Syrian oil in full view of the world.

For his part, bin Al-Maleeh stressed the readiness of the United Nations organizations to provide all support and assistance to the sectors affected by the earthquake, such as health, education and agriculture, in order to achieve early recovery.
