Prime Minister: The Participation of Businessmen and Industrialists at the Damascus International Fair Can Establish Broader Economic Relationship

Damascus, (ST) – Prime Minister Imad Khamis met with businessmen and industrialists from Arab and friendly countries participating in the 59th session of the Damascus International Fair from Libya, Egypt, Yemen, UAE, Lebanon, Sudan, Iran, Algeria, Iraq and Sweden.

During the meeting, businessmen and industrialists reviewed the problems and obstacles facing the trade exchange process and the development of working mechanisms between their countries and Syria, mainly “solving the shipping problems between Syria and Iraq, activating the businessmen council between Syria and Sudan, setting determinants to facilitate the entry of foreign companies to the Syrian market, establishing commercial communication office between Syria and Libya and solve the problem of transferring funds to traders and the development of a second plane to transport passengers from Libya and open the border between Syria and Jordan to facilitate trade exchange.

 The businessmen and industrialists expressed their admiration for what they witnessed during their visit to the Damascus International Fair, which confirms the return of the production and labor movement to Syria, noting the steps being taken by the Syrian government to launch production and take decisions supporting the industry and the productive process of all kinds.

Eng. Khamis welcomed the participation of businessmen and industrialists from sisterly and friendly countries at the Damascus International Fair, which can establish wider economic relations with various economic actors in these countries and encourage the establishment of investment projects in Syria in light of its recovery in various aspects, especially economic and its hard workto create an appropriate and developed climate to establish for more investments.

In the context of the government efforts to develop the legislation governing the investment process in a manner that takes into account all aspects related to facilitate and simplify procedures and provide incentives to make a positive change in the overall production process in general.  Eng. Khamis pointed to the importance of building an economic pillar among the countries participating in the Fair starting from various economic activities and exhibitions that promote commercial exchange.

The Premier confirmed that Syria is open to cooperation with all those who want to cooperate and due to the broad advantages and products that Syria owns in addition tothe qualitative steps to encourage trade exchange. Syria is constantly seeking to develop the mechanisms of action in this regard, pointing out in this context the important role of the higher joint councils between Syria and other countries to brief on the various products and map out a vision for constructive cooperation.

Eng. Khamis pointed out that the government is determined to build a various economy that strengthens cooperation with various countries wishing to do so, noting the steadfastness of governmental and private institutions and businessmen who insisted on continuing the work in addition to the big role being played by the private sector that is considered a partner to the government in building.

In the matter of investment,Eng. Khamis clarified that any investment is made through the law of partnership, which is a very advanced law, through the investments in the Syrian Investment Authority in preparation for a large trade exchange next year. He explained that the government welcomes all friends and brothers to promote business and joint ventures that ensure interest for all.

The meeting was attended by the Secretary-General of the Cabinet, Dr. Qais Kheder, Chairman of Exporters Federation Mohammed Al-Sawah, Secretary of the Federation of the Syrian Chambers of Commerce Mohammad Hamsho, Chairman of Damascus Chamber of Industry, Osama Mustafa.

In a statement to journalists after the meeting, the head of the delegation of Sudanese businessmen Abu al-Qasim Ibrahim Adam expressed his thanks to the Syrian government for the great facilities provided to Arab and foreign businessmen, calling on businessmen and industrialists to resume their cooperation with the Syrian Arab Republic and benefit from the facilities provided to them.

Businessman Raed Suhail of the Swedish company “GBC” expressed his appreciation for the efforts exerted at Damascus International Fair, which continues to be successful throughout history, calling on companies wishing to invest and contribute to reconstruction to come to Syria and to benefit from the facilities provided by the government.

 For his part, Milad Queen, a businessman,  of the Association of Syrian Businessmen in Sweden, said that the establishment of the Damascus International Fair is a victory for, stressing that the Syrian products is one of the most famous products in the world with its quality and is still favored by businessmen.

The Head of the Libyan Businessmen Council Fawzeiya al – Ferjani said that her country’s participation in the Damascus International Fair is the participation of the Syrian people in the joy of victory over terrorism. “Many agreements have been concluded with the Exporters Federation and some Syrian companies, which will enhance the relations between the two countries,” said Al-Ferjani.

Later the  Prime Minister visited the Damascus International Fair on its 4th day, met industrialists and manufacturers and reviewed the signed export contracts.

Touring a number of the Fair’s pavilions, Premier Khamis stressed that Syria has been able to rise up again and even stronger despite the billions of dollars spent to destroy the country.

He noted to the remarkable presence and participation of local industrial companies, adding that the high quality products affirm the recovery of the Syrian economy and send a message to the entire world that Syria is now far stronger and more powerful than ever before thanks to the Syrian people’s determination to continue their lives.
