Damascus, (ST) – Prime Minister Hussein Arnous affirmed that the entire world shoulders the responsible of confronting climate change and of working together to address its effects. He said that Syria is one of the first countries to sign and join the climate agreement.
Arnous said in an exclusive statement to the Emirati website Al Ain News during his participation in the World Climate Action Summit in Dubai: The world agrees that there is an environmental disaster and climate change, and therefore joint action must be done to address the effects of this change.
He indicated that Syria is one of the first countries to sign the agreement and it joined it in 2007, and government work programs in this field were reaching very advanced levels.
Arnous added: Today, we are close to many countries in the world in the level of preserving the environment and mitigating the effects of climate change, whether by reducing emissions and switching to renewable energies, or by using modern irrigation systems, sustainable development, and creating funds to mitigate drought.
The Prime Minister clarified that the terrorist war on Syria directly affected the environment and caused great damage to it.
“This war also caused similar damage in all areas of economics and development, noting that the Western coercive economic measures imposed on Syria increased its suffering from the effects of climate change”, Arnous said.
Arnous expressed thanked the United Arab Emirates for hosting the Conference of States Parties to the Climate Convention, which was attended by more than 155 heads of state and government.
