Prime Minister: Armenians are an inseparable component of the Syrian people

Damascus – Prime Minister Wael al-Halqi stressed that Armenians in Syria are an inseparable component of the Syrian people, stressing that the unity of the Syrians and their support to their army and leadership will foil all schemes.

During his meeting with a delegation of the Armenian Evangelical denomination in Syria, al-Halqi recalled the crimes of the Ottoman authorities, who committed a genocide against the Armenian people a hundred years ago, adding that the Turkish regime under Erdogan is currently repeating its ancestors’ “black history” by sending terrorists and mercenaries to wreak havoc in Syria.

He highlighted the pivotal role which clergymen could play in defending the society against the invasion of Takfiri thinking, applauding the Armenian Evangelical denomination for its success in integrating into the Syrian society and boosting national unity.

Priest of the Armenian Evangelical church Haroutioune Suleiman said national unity in Syria is unbreakable and all plots aimed at fragmenting the country will be to no avail, adding that the Turkish president Recep Tayyib Erdogan poses a serious threat to the stability of the region and should be held responsible for the destruction inflicted on Syria.

Up to 1.5 million Armenian people were systematically killed by Ottoman forces between 1915 and 1923, while millions of others were displaced. Last April, Armenia proclaimed all martyrs of the genocide as “saints”.
