Presidential elections, slap in the face of Syria’s enemies

The remarkably high turnout of the Syrians to cast their ballots in the recent presidential elections has dealt a blow to the enemies of Syria. It reflects the will of the Syrians and their insistence to fight terrorism and press ahead in foiling the conspiracy being hatched against their country. The elections have sent a strong message to the countries which are still conspiring against Syria as the Syrians at home and abroad have spoken their mind despite enormous pressure and threats.

It is surprising that some countries have brought themselves to criticize presidential elections knowing that they have never seen a ballot box on their own soil, especially Saudi Arabia and Qatar which constitute two of the most totalitarian and dictatorial  regimes in the world.

The voting for president has delivered a slap in the face of the countries that have been supporting terrorism in Syria. The Syrian people sent a message that they stand united, together with their army and leadership, until security and stability are restored to their homeland.

The elections have constituted a political and popular declaration of the failure of the war on Syria, and whoever wants a political resolution should stop all support to terrorists in deed, not words. It’s not enough for some countries to list takfiri groups as terrorist groups, as there are some countries who have done so yet continue to support them with up-to-date weapons to destroy Syria’s infrastructure and kill innocent Syrians. The millions of Syrians who participated in the elections proved to those who wanted to divide Syria that they are capable of forging their future.

The elections were accomplished despite immense US and Western pressure and threats against the Syrian leadership which brushed off Western bullying and went ahead with the elections. The countries behind these accusations have been seeking to seize the public will of the Syrians. The elections have bestowed a renewed public trust on the leadership of President Bashar al-Assad to press ahead with his wise and courageous policy.

Syria’s presidential elections have marked a milestone in Syria’ modern history. The elections have heralded a better era of stability and national unity. The Syrian citizens managed to preserve their territorial integrity and sovereignty under the leadership of President Bashar al-Assad. The Voting of the Syrian citizens in the recent presidential elections meant “Yes to democracy and no to terrorism and extremism”.  Syria’s presidential elections sent a strong message saying that legitimacy can only be granted by the Syrian people themselves and all the fuss and voices of dissonance of the West are worthless. The elections are a key step in Syria’s modern history where the Syrians played out democracy at its best. The Syrian people embodied legitimacy through their massive turnout to the ballot boxes giving voice to their real will. All the Western hostile statements which preceded and followed the spectacular results are a sort of political obstinacy that is rendered futile before the real unity binding Syria’s people and leader.

With the elections now successfully accomplished, the battle against terrorism will continue, and so will the promising victories of the great Syrian Arab army so as to achieve eliminating terrorism wherever on the Syrian soil at all costs and with whatever sacrifices.

In parallel with the war against terrorism, Syrian people nationwide will proceed with local reconciliation operations that have been brought to fruition in various areas all over the country.

Another top priority that stands central in the coming stage will be to complete  projects of rehabilitating infrastructure and securing housing units for all people affected by the crisis in the country, including the internally and externally displaced.

The presidential election in Syria is an internal sovereign issue that is decided by the Syrians themselves. The huge turnout by the Syrians on the ballot boxes is an evidence of the Syrian people’s will to decide their future and emerge out of the crisis.

Attempts to distract the presidential elections did not affect the will of the Syrian people or change their mind, and the international community has to respect the Syrian people’s choice.
