Presidential Elections a Turning Point in Syria’s Democratic Development

DAMASCUS, (ST)-Syria’s enemies and all who targeted the country’s sovereignty and independent decision didn’t imagine that three years after a complicated foreign-made crisis in the country, the Syrians will manage to witness bright days of victory by holding the constitutional obligation of electing the president of the Syrian Arab Republic.

The Supreme Constitutional Court (SCC) yesterday announced the acceptance of candidacy bids submitted by Mr. Maher Abdul Hafeez Hajjar, Mr. Hassan Abdullah al-Nouri and Dr. Bashar Hafez Al-Assad in accordance with the state’s constitution and elections law. With this announcement, Syria completes the first phase in the process of electing the president.

Many experts, analysts and observers believe that “the presidential elections in Syria are a turning point in the history of renewable Syria”, because Syria has foiled the schemes architected by its enemies in the dark Paltalk rooms to present Syria to Israel on a golden plate via the ill-famed “Arab Spring”.

The Syrian people, who realize the fact that Syria is a key player in the Arab and international arenas and that their country has for long been the target of colonialism, know well that the democratic development Syria is witnessing will fortify the internal front and will prove the validity and importance of the modernization and development process launched in Syria decades ago.

As usual, the West opposed the Syrian approved constitution and independent decision to foil the coming elections, but on the other side, the Syrians across the country flooded the homeland’s squares and streets to affirm their support for the constitutional obligation of electing the hoped-for president of the Syrian Arab Republic.

Abou Ammar, owner of a Damascus-based publishing house, said “we are going to add a new achievement to our victory on terrorism by electing a leader who can maintain the unity of the country and embody the aspirations of the citizens.”

Samer, a university student, said optimistically “we are getting ready for the exams as our country enters a new era of development. We will take part in the elections to choose our hope-for president through ballot boxes.”

Salma, a lawyer, said “holding pluralism-based presidential elections reflects people’s culture and civilization. Syria is getting ready for such an experience after it has challenged extraordinary circumstances and has preserved its independent decision.”
