Presidential candidate Dr. Bashar Al_Assad and his wife cast their vote in the town of Douma in Damascus countryside.

DAMASCUS COUNTRYSIDE, (ST)_Presidential Candidate Bashar Al-Assad and his wife Mr. Asma Al-Assad cast their vote on Wednesday in the electoral center in the municipality of Douma in Damascus Countryside.

Speaking to reporters after he voting, the presidential candidate said: ”My wife and I are happy to visit Douma city and to meet its people and to share with them this great national occasion. As this is our first visit to the city after its liberation we have first to congratulate the people of Douma on the city’s liberation from terrorism and on its return to the homeland .We congratulate them on their contribution with their brothers in liberating other areas in Syria in helping the return to normal life gradually and in participating in national entitlements, including the recent parliamentary elections and the presidential election being held today.”

He added: “This city has several names and its called the capital Ghota .. the Bride of Ghouta ..Terrorists had tried during their occupation of the city to distort the image of the city and to damage its reputation, but the people who were living inside the Ghouta and outside it were continuously communicating with state institutes in one way or another demanding the liberation of the city by the Syrian army .

“ Some of the people in the city were killed for their communication with the state or for showing their will to do that.. Some of the people of Douma city and Ghouta fought alongside the Syrian army at its entrances and at the entrances of fields and they offered martyrs… Some of them formally joined the army and others joined supporting forces and this fact was manifested in the huge poplar reaction during the period of elections.. The reaction was spontaneous and clear and reflected real national status not false one,” the candidate clarified.

He went on to say:” The second point is that this national occasion is an occasion to remember that this process which we are going through today in this city and in other liberated areas would not have been held without the sacrifices of thousands of martyrs who defended the land and its people in Douma and other areas.”

“On the other hand, the presidential elections and the popular reaction which we see prove that the Syrian citizen is free.. The decision of the Syria citizen is in his/ her hand …It is in the hand of people and in the hand of others .. The recent statements that were made on the Syrian presidential elections by Western countries-most of them colonial ones- started before the presidential campaign and lasted until few days or few hours ago .. We as a state do not care about these statements, and the most important thing is what the people will say,” the candidate asserted.

He pointed out that the popular reaction was a clear response to these statements and tell these Western countries that your opinions have no value (Zero value).

The Presidential candidate saluted the people of Douma and the people of Ghouta and the people of all liberated areas. “ Together we will work and we will build our cities and towns and villages and we will bring back brightness to our fields. Greetings to the Syrian people in Syria and abroad because they are behind all achievements and because they are the ones who sacrificed and remained steadfastness and reaped….Thank you.”
