President Raisi escorted to final resting place in the city of Mashhad in the presence of millions of Iranians
The body of Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi was carried to his final resting place in his birthplace, the city of Mashhad, in the presence of more than 3 million Iranians, where he was buried next to the shrine of Imam Reza.
Millions of Iranians from the cities of Khorasan Province gathered from the early hours of the morning. Pedestrian queues of morners extended from Mashhad airport to the shrine of Imam Reza to pay their respects to the body of Raisi, while foreign diplomats accredited in Mashhad and officials from neighboring countries participated in the funeral ceremony.
A funeral ceremony was also held for the martyr Raisi in the city of Birjand, the capital of South Khorasan Province, which was the last stop of the funeral ceremony that included the cities of Tabriz, Qom and Tehran.
Pasdaran Street in Birjand was crowded with large crowds of people who came to participate in the funeral ceremony for Raisi, as well as the two martyrs, Malek Rahmati, Governor of East Azerbaijan, and Brigadier General Mehdi Mousavi, Commander of the President’s Protection Unit.
The body of Foreign Minister Hossein Amir Abdullahian was also laid to rest in the city of Shahr-e Rey, south of Tehran, after a popular funeral ceremony held in Basij Square with the participation of the Acting President of the Republic, Muhammad Mokhber, and many officials.
The Acting President of the Republic, Muhammad Mokhber expressed his sorrow over the loss of Abdullahian, considering that the martyrdom of this diplomat represents a major loss for the country’s diplomatic apparatus.
Today, the Leader of the Islamic Revolution in Iran, Mr. Ali Khamenei, held a memorial service for the soul of President Raisi and his companions in Tehran.
