President calls Iran, Russia cooperation against terrorism ‘historic’

Tehran– President Hassan Rouhani said that Iran and Russia’s cooperation in fighting terrorism in Syria had a historic effect on boost of regional stability.

He made the remarks in a telephone conversation with Russian President Vladimir Putin on Monday evening.

Iranian President thanked the Russian president for his condolence message over train collision in Northern Province of Semnan, according to IRNA.

He welcomed the growing cooperation between Iran and Russia in economic field and called for removal of obstacles on the way of the two countries’ cooperation.

Rouhani referred to Iran-Russia joint commission which is going to be held in Tehran in the near future and voiced hope for facilitation of banking cooperation and removal of visa requirement between the two states.

The president expressed satisfaction with the positive process of cooperation between Iran and Eurasian countries as well as successful holding of the summit between Iran, Russia and Azerbaijan Republic leaders.

Rouhani referred to Iran and Russia joint cooperation in fighting terrorism in Syria and said that this cooperation had a historic effect on boost of regional stability.

It is the Syrian people themselves that should decide on their future and resolve the crisis through political dialogue, the president added.
