President Bzhania discusses with Al-Miqdad ways of enhancing cooperation relations between Abkhazia and Syria

SOKHUMI, Aug.25, (ST)-President of Abkhazia, Aslan Bzhania, met this afternoon with the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Faisal Al-Miqdad in Sokhumi city.

During the meeting, President Bzhania expressed his great happiness with the visit he paid to Syria a year ago, inviting President Al-Assad to visit Abkhazia at the earliest opportunity. He also asserted his country’s keenness to build a strategic and economic partnership with Syria, advance cooperation relations and continue developing them in various fields to achieve the interests of the peoples of the two friendly countries.

“The relations between Syria and Abkhazia will be further enhanced over time and there are preparations within the framework of the joint committee to sign six agreements and a memo of cooperation in the domains of culture, agriculture, education, trade and sports,” President Bzhania added, according to the Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA).

For his part, Al-Miqdad stressed that the deep-rooted and friendly relations between Syria and Abkhazia did not begin only with the establishment of the diplomatic relations between the two countries, but rather they are well –established through history.

the implementation of the agreements signed between the two sides, the agreements and the practical steps that are being prepared, which would form the basis of a final agreement, were also on the table.
