On August 1st, President Bashar Al-Assad issued on Sunday decree No. 206 for the year 2021 tasking Eng. Hussein Arnous with forming a new government in the Syrian Arab Republic.
Engineer Arnous, born in Idlib in 1953, graduated from the Faculty of Civil Engineering at the University of Aleppo in 1978 and occupied the following positions:
- The Head of the Engineers Syndicate branch in Idlib 1989-1994.
- Director of the General Company for Roads between 1992 and 2002.
- Assistant minister of transportation from 2002 to 2004.
- Director general of the General Organization for Road Transport since 2004 until 2009.
- Governor of Deir Ezzor from 2009 to 2011.
- Governor of Quneitra in 2011.
- Minister of Public Works from 2013 to 2016.
- Minister of Public Works and Housing from 2016 to 2018.
- A member of the Central Command of the Arab Socialist Baath Party since 2013.
- Minister of Water Resources since 2018.
- Prime Minister from August 25, 2020 until August 1, 2021.
- Engineer Arnous is married and has five children.
